Wilderness Project for Men
Our Wilderness Project for Men are sessions designed to improve men's mental health and wellbeing proactively, where we reach out to the community and offer support.
At the core of these sessions is Hiking, where we plan various routes in and around North Devon. Narrow pathways which snake along stunning coastlines, the dense wooded valleys of Exmoor and further afield, the barren landscape of Dartmoor and the starkness of its granite tors provides an opportunity to explore new locations.
Hiking sessions are free and are carefully planned and led by our volunteer hike leaders.
The benefits of hiking extends beyond the physicality of cardiovascular health; vitally it improves emotional wellbeing, too.
Acceptance is a vital component of all our sessions and for everyone involved, including participants and the Adventure Therapy team.
While we are there to listen and offer help wherever we can, there is no obligation to share - just come along and meet with others who may be struggling through the pressures of everyday life, too.
If additional support is needed, our registered psychotherapist is available to provide qualified support where needed either as part of the group or privately - and we can arrange this for you or signpost you to additional support, if it would help.
In addition to our free Hiking sessions we offer further activities to strengthen our emotional resilience, grit and fortitude. These include include kayaking, surfing, coasteering, archery and bushcraft and are led by our qualified activity instructors and supported by the wider Adventure Therapy team. We do ask for a contribution to the cost of these, to help with the sustainability of our cause.
If you're a man in North Devon who could benefit from our Wilderness Project, make new friends and gain a network of support, please complete our registration form. We will contact you and let you know when and where the next session takes place - and we look forward to meeting you, soon.
