WHO WE ARE

Our founder was inspired through working at a children’s hospice and seeing the difference that surfing made to a child with a life-limiting condition – and her whole family – through lying on a longboard, interacting with her brothers and sisters, and riding the wave in.
In addition to this experience, through a friend's child who had Duchenne muscular dystrophy and seeing how hiking and at the later stages of his prognosis, by using an off-road wheelchair, was so positive to family life, enabling him to continue experiencing the outdoors and take part in family adventures; and create special memories.
Through a passion for nature and spending time outdoors and how it impacts on mental health and wellbeing for us all, our founder understands the impact that taking part in outdoor and adventurous activities can make to an individual with complex health conditions. Activities which provide challenges of their own and a sense of accomplishment and in doing so, encourage overall wellbeing, a positive outlook and an improved quality of life.
Adventure Therapy registered as a charity in England and Wales in 2017.
Our mission is to improve the emotional and physical wellbeing of children and adults with unique health conditions, impairments or limitations through outdoor and adventure-led activities.
Activities are provided free of charge and we are funded entirely by charitable donations and the kindness and generosity of the communities we serve.
